A warm bowl of stovetop oats cooked in milk and enriched with vanilla protein, finished with maple syrup and toasted pecans for a cozy, filling start.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1 tbsp pecans, chopped
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch fine salt

Instructions

  1. Bring the milk to a gentle simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat, watching so it does not boil over, then stir in the rolled oats, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring often, until the oats are tender and the mixture has thickened to a creamy porridge.
  3. Remove from the heat and let it cool for 1 minute, then whisk in the vanilla protein powder until fully dissolved — adding it off the boil keeps the protein from turning grainy.
  4. Spoon into a bowl, drizzle with the maple syrup, and top with the chopped pecans, toasting them first in a dry pan if you have a spare minute.
